WOW! That's Engineering Volunteer Sign Up

Volunteers are needed for San Jose State University’s chapter of Society of Women Engineers annual WOW! That’s Engineering event. This is a one-day event where girls from local high schools are invited to SJSU to learn about engineering. The event includes industry-led workshops that will allow girls to explore different types of engineering, college student panels where girls will learn about engineering and college life, and industry speakers to inspire and motivate them towards engineering.

The event is set to take place on Saturday, March 11, 2016. Check-in will begin at 9:30 and the event will end at 3:30. Please review the different volunteer types and let us know what you're the most interested in helping out with.

Volunteer Responsibilities

• Set-up (8 volunteers)

• Set-up will take place from 7:00AM-8:30AM

• Set-up and arrange tables

• Put up tablecloths and decorations

• Put up directional signs

• Registration (3-5 volunteers from set-up)

• Will take place from 8:30 to 9:15 AM

• Signing in students, volunteers, parents, and industry leaders

• Directing students towards the Ballroom

• Handing out swag (T-shirts, itinerary, other materials)

• Answering questions regarding event

• Workshops (4 volunteers)

• 2 rounds of workshops will take place at 10:30AM-12:00PM, 1:00PM-2:00PM

• Mostly for organizations on campus, but if clubs need more volunteers, this could be an option as well

• Parent workshop helpers

• Lunch Service (4 volunteers)

• Set up for lunch at 11:30AM, lunch will be from 12PM-1PM

• Help with laying out boxes of pizza and taking away empty boxes (drinks as well)

• Clean-up

• Tour Leaders (3-4 volunteers)

• Estimated time will be 9:55AM-10:25AM

• Bring groups of girls and parents to different engineering labs that we have in the department

• Miscellaneous tasks (5 volunteers)

• Timeslots: 7:00AM-10AM, 10AM-12PM, and 12PM-4PM

• Bringing workshops extra materials

• Directing people

• Keep time for rotations

• Remind workshop leaders when time is almost up
